Professor Alex Johnstone to join British Nutrition Foundation Advisory Committee
The British Nutrition Foundation is delighted to announce that Alex Johnstone, Professor in Human Nutrition, Theme Lead for Nutrition, Obesity and Disease at the Rowett Institute, is to join their Advisory Committee.
The role of the Advisory Committee, which is chaired by Janet Cade, Professor of Nutritional Epidemiology and Public Health at Leeds University, is to advise the Foundation’s Board of Trustees on external issues and its strategic plan as well as providing external insights and critical appraisal.
Prof Johnstone brings with her a wealth of knowledge and over 20 years research experience on the science of appetite, diet-related health and disease. She is currently leading two major research projects ‘FIO Food’ and ‘DIO Food’ looking at food insecurity and obesity, and on diet and health inequalities respectively.
“As a researcher in human nutrition, my work involves a rigorous exploration of the science behind diet and health. But it’s also vital that this science is translated into accessible information for different audiences so that it can have real-life benefits. This is where the British Nutrition Foundation can make a real difference and I look forward to working with the other Advisory Committee members to support them."

The science of nutrition and health underpins everything we do at the Foundation and the contribution of expert scientists is fundamental to our governance as an organisation.”

About the British Nutrition Foundation
Connecting people, food and science for better nutrition and healthier lives
The British Nutrition Foundation is a registered charity that provides impartial, evidence-based information about food and nutrition. We translate nutrition science in engaging and actionable ways, working extensively with people in academia, health care, education, communications and the food system, for public benefit.
We safeguard our independence through robust governance, with an independent Board supported by an Advisory Committee and a Scientific Committee, both of which draw upon a board range of experts from academia, government, industry, and public life. Our governance is weighted towards the scientific community, universities, and research institutes, and those from education, finance, media, communications, and HR backgrounds.
Funding for the British Nutrition Foundation is from membership subscriptions; donations; project grants from food producers and manufacturers, retailers and food service companies; conferences; publications, training, trusts, and foundations. The British Nutrition Foundation is not a lobbying organisation, nor does it endorse any products or engage in food advertising campaigns.
